Suggested Itinerary
Take a direct train this morning from London St Pancras to Amsterdam. The journey is just over 4 hours and on arrival, you’ll be checking in for a 2-night stay at the Hotel Pulitzer (or similar).
Settle in at your hotel and then spend the afternoon beginning your exploration of this distinctive capital city. A cruise along Amsterdam’s famous canals is always a good way to get your bearings.
Enjoy a full day at leisure in Amsterdam. This is the perfect city for simply wandering, with all the main sights within walking distance of each other. Alternatively, you might prefer to do as the locals do and hire a bike for the day!
In rainy weather (or indeed any weather), there are a dizzying number of museums and galleries to choose from. For the most popular, the Van Gogh Museum and Ann Frank’s House, it’s best to book tickets before you go to avoid the queues. Otherwise, the Rijksmuseum and National Maritime Museum are also well worth a visit.
After breakfast in your hotel, it’s time to return to the station for your unforgettable journey aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Once you’ve settled into your comfortable cabin, it’s time to make your way to one of the beautiful dining cars for a three-course lunch prepared by the chefs onboard the train.
Enjoy the passing scenery back in your cabin, and then it’s time to get dressed up in style for your lavish evening meal. Once replete, you can return to your cabin which will have been transformed into a cosy bedroom by your steward.
Your steward will serve you a continental breakfast in your cabin when you wake and then you can take in the stunning mountain scenery of Switzerland passing by your window, before you enjoy a gastronomic three-course lunch back in one of the restaurant cars.
Enjoy a leisurely afternoon onboard, perhaps visiting the onboard boutique for exclusive gifts before the train pulls into Venice Santa Lucia station at the end of your luxurious journey. Take a shared transfer to the Ca’ Sagredo Hotel (or similar) where you have a 2-night stay.
Awake this morning to the sights and sounds of Venice, a unique city made up of 118 islands linked by canals and bridges. You might like to visit one of the many famous attractions such as St Mark’s Square with its ornately decorated Basilica of the same name or head for one of the galleries like the Accademia or the Peggy Guggenheim Museum.
We recommend exploring the narrow streets and hidden campos of the city on foot with plenty of stops for coffee or an Aperol Spritz so that you can indulge in the local pastime of people-watching in stunning surroundings.
It’s time to leave Venice today for your return journey to the UK. You can either book your own flight home or ask us to add a return journey by rail, taking you back via a different Alpine route with a stop in Lausanne or Zurich. Alternatively, if time allows, why not add extra nights in Italy before coming back to London? Please call for details and prices.
Typical hotels on this itinerary

Enjoy classic dishes at the canal-view restaurant or a drink in the courtyard bar.
Hotel Ca’ Sagredo occupies a 15th century palazzo overlooking the Grand Canal.
